Recent Interesting Developments In Document Processing Services (DPS)
Submitted by Hans Lodder on Sun, 04/05/2008 - 07:53The new developments with respect to Document Processing Services (DPS) are interesting. Forrester recently published a report bringing attention to the increased maturity level of DPS software solutions. Attention can now shift from cost control to process efficiency.
There are 3 types of DPS software:
- Hosted repository services;
- Document output services;
- Distributed output services.
Currently these three types are re-integrated again. This implies that DPS software now should be a significant part of your Enterprise Content Management (ECM) strategy.
This corresponds to my own observations. Looking a bit more closely to the business requirements of DPS software I miss an important one: Software to extract information dynamically from all kinds enterprise resources, new as well as old legacy systems, with interface configuration, and add that information to the enterprise knowledge base.
A solution that fulfills all DPS business requirements is MyInformationVault.
A 2nd important missing DPS business requirement is collaboration of people, work groups, departments and/or complete enterprises: The possibility to work together on the same information, at all times keeping one copy and creating versions on the fly when fed with differences.
DataVault is DPS solution that meets this business requirement.
