A CIO dilemma: On-premise applications or Software as a Service (SaaS)

It seems that among the CIO community a Berlin wall is created between those who are determined to move their enterprise applications to SaaS-based constructs versus the group who still believes that on-premise applications are still the best way forward. I think that this is not a simple black and white choice but one that depends on a combination of factors. These are the ones I would consider.

Characterize your IT Solution provider: part 2 Typical encounters

We introduced a practical model to characterize IT solution suppliers in their development phase in Part 1. In this blog I present some typical value elements that you will encounter when dealing with the suppliers in the respective phases.

Characterize your IT Solution provider: part 1 Phases

Resulting from a discussion around My IT Solution Checklist, the question came up if there is a pragmatic model to specify the business development stage in which the solution provider is in. There are many elaborate models to typify and qualify companies. But at Results2Match we like the simple and practical models. So I looked back to the many companies I dealt with over the years and derived a phase model.

Too old to be in ICT?

Triggered by the headline “Average ICT person not older than 40”, the business press commented on a publication by two very renowned research organizations in The Netherlands (ROA and CBS), a rather furious polemic started on the topic of age discrimination in the ICT industry. Is having an ICT career above 40 difficult and above 50 impossible?

Business as usual?

Scanning the ICT-business wire it looks like we are moving to a state of business as usual after the nervous last 9 recession months. Halted projects are started again, the word “growth” is out in the open again, people are hired and first articles on future scarce ICT-resources are emerging. Has our industry learned anything from the roller-coaster the world is going through? I doubt it.

My Project Checklist

Recently I have been blogging on subjects like driving change and master data management implementations. One of the type of questions I got is: Can you provide me with a simple project checklist? That can help me to avoid errors (and introduce new ones …)

Master Data Management and Information Modeling: On End or Means

Good news! MDM is alive! I published 2 blogs on Master Data Management (MDM): Benefits and implementation. As it turned out this subject is popular, because a hose of reactions has come my way. A large number of them deal with data and information modeling. However, the question is whether data modeling is a means or an end.
